About Chhota UdaipurThe city of Chhota Udaipur is located in Vadodara district in Gujarat. It is located near Rajasthan border. Along with Rajpipla and Devgadh Baria, Chhota Udaipur is also considered as a princely state of eastern Gujarat. It is also the headquarters of Chhota Udaipur taluka and is presently serving as the municipality too.
History of Chhota Udaipur
Chhota Udaipur is a historical city. It was the capital city to Royal State of Chhota Udaipur previously. Rawal Udeysinhji had founded the princely state in the year 1743 AD. On March 10th 1948, it became a part of Union of India. Till then it was considered as a second class state and represented Rewa Kantha Agency. As per information that is available from various inscriptions, the founders of the city Chhota Udaipur are descendents of the king Prithviraj Chauhan. Till now several public and royal buildings with excellent architecture can be seen in different parts of Chhota Udaipur.
It is a major attraction for the tourists. The city started developing rapidly after the year 1822 AD when the city attained some peace after a truce with the British rulers. Before that the capital was situated at Mohan, before moving it to Chhota Udaipur. HH Aishwarya Pratap Singh Chauhan is the current Maharaja of the city. He is the third son of Maharaja Virendra Pratap Singh Chauhan.
Transportation in Chhota Udaipur
Chhota Udaipur being the historic city has many visitors visiting it year round. The excellent transport facility makes it all the more easy to travel to the princely state of eastern Gujarat and around. Civil airport Harni or Vadodara airport is the nearest airport to the city. Flights flying to some major cities and states of India connect Vadodara with them. From the Airport private cabs can be booked to reach your destination.
Though Chhota Udaipur has a railway station, major trains can’t be seen plying. Hence, one needs to travel to Vadodara either by bus, car or local trains from the city to reach Vadodara Railway station. If you are someone who wants to travel via rod, the excellent network of roads to reach the city will give you a wonderful experience.
The nearest city to reach Chhota Udaipur is Vadodara. From Vadodara one can find several public and private transports to different destination such as Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and much more. Several private luxury coaches and state transport buses ensure smooth traveling. The pocket pinch for the tickets can be anything between Rs 100/- to Ahmadabad to Rs 200/- to Mumbai. However, this may vary as per the model of the bus, A.C, Non A.C and other factors. Regular buses from GSRTC are available to travel to different parts of the city and the state of Gujarat too.
Climatic Condition in Chhota UdaipurChhota Udaipur faces extreme climatic conditions. During summer months the temperature can go up to as high as 44° C. The summer months are very dry and very hot too. Summer starts from the month of April when the average temperature is around 32° C. The winter months starting from October brings some relief to the people of Chhota Udaipur. During the winter months the temperature is anything between 22° C to 29° C. It is best to visit the city from the month of October to March to enjoy the favorable climatic condition.
Tourist Places in Chhota Udaipur
There is no dearth of tourist places when it comes to Chhota Udaipur. The princely state of eastern Gujarat has historical significance too. Many building of the bygone era can be seen in the city. Kusum Vilas Palace, Prem Bhavan Palace, Kali Niketan and Jain Dersar are some of the structures which speaks volumes about the rich culture and tradition of the city.
Apart from the monuments there are several temples located in Chhota Udaipur. Kali Temple in the city is very famous and visited by everyone to offer their prayers. This goddess in the temple is also worshiped by the royal family of Chhota Udaipur.
Art and Culture in Chhota UdaipurThe
city enjoys diverse culture and celebrates various festivals at
different times of the year. During such festival, the local people
performs garba which is a popular dance form in Gujarat and Rajasthan.
During Dussehra, devotees celebrate by performing Dandia which is also a
popular dance form. Apart from Dusshra and Garba, there are other local
folk dances too which are performed on various occasion. Tourists are
also invited to participate in the dance and celebrate the happy
Chhota Udaipur is culturally very rich. The Rathwas present there are famous for Pithora paintings. Such types of paintings are generally found on the walls of the homes of villagers. The tribal museum present in Chhota Udaipur contains large collection of various forms of tribal artifacts. Such artifacts are also put on display for the locals and visitors to buy in the weekly haata (markets) held on any particular day every week.
